Based on other reviews, we purchased this backpack. We took it to Disneyland and it worked like a champ. We froze water bottles, Capri Suns, and Go-gurts. In the morning we stuffed it with cold sandwiches, fruit salds, peanut butter, granola bars and four flat ice packs. It kept everything inside cold as the water bottles melted slowly throughout the day. When I wanted easily accesible water, I placed a water bottle in the outer mesh pockets, kids could grab it any time they wanted a drink. By lunch time the capri suns were soft and drinkable if you mashed it with your hands. The shoulder straps were comfortable and there is a waist belt that you can use on a hike, we didn't need it and tucked behind me it was not an issue. A water bottle leaked and the bag remained water-tight!. Theres a smaller outer pouch that zips open and closed and it was good for candy and with a flat ice pack inside it kept our hershey miniatures cold. For the money you cannot go wrong. As with any cooler or ice pack, prep work is key. Keep it out of the car before loading it! And make sure you have enough ice, ice packs or frozen drinks to maintain the chill!

Review of Coleman backpack coolerThis is a great product. Used it daily for 2 wks in Barbados. We loaded it to the brim w/heavy food & drink & it held up well. No issues w/ seams failing. Here’s what we packed on a daily basis:In the bottom of the pack laying down, 2-500 ml plastic frozen bottles of water. We kept our food & drink cool in this fashion, rather than using loose ice cubes. Keeping our food cool this way really didn’t take up much extra space, plus at the end of the day we could drink any of the melted water if we needed to.We then packed: 1-2L bottle of water; 3-500ml bottles of tea & juices (all liquids chilled well prior to packing); 2 sandwiches; cut up veggies; cheese; jerky; 2 pieces of fruit; pretzels; 2 helpings of chips; granola bar; cookies. We packed most of the food in 6 separate Tupperware containers, which takes up more space but preserves the food better. This took up the entire pack, w/minimal strain to close the zippers, & no strain on the zippers when closed. Packed in this fashion, the available space in the front pocket was nil - in that we simply put napkins in a Ziplock bag. Similarly, loaded in this fashion, the 2 mesh side pockets could only hold something small a/o flat. I put my watch there.I would call this a medium size backpack. I was able to take advantage of the padded hip belt – which was the reason I bought this pack – but I am short (5’) & so this pack fit me well. For a taller person, the padded hip belt would ride up much higher, prob’ly around the waist. We walked every day to various beaches, & the pack was comfortable. There is a good amt of padding everywhere that you need it.The pack does not compress well, so it will take up space in your checked luggage. For this reason, I used it as my “personal item” to carry on the plane, & filled it w/ soft things only. Anything sharp, such as a brush, comb, or possibly even an iPad, runs the risk of puncturing the loose, plastic-like insulation material lining the bag. You need to keep that fragility in mind when packing it w/food & drink as well.As with any cooler, if you keep it out of the sun, the contents will stay cooler longer. We always kept our pack in the shade & covered it up w/ a towel. The food & drink were still cool at the end of an 8-hr day out. I recommend this product for similar use.

We loaded this up everyday on our 5 day trip. I used a medium cooler shock pack and it kept everything perfect. We don't like the way the free water tastes so we (2 adults,2 kids) would freeze a few bottles of water and place them in the bottom for the evening and throw some room temps in for the daytime. Then we'd load in the sandwiches and lunchables. We'd throw some snacks on top. In the little front pocket went our power bank, cords, and hand wipes.***Side Note*** We didn't take it to universal since they make you load things in those tiny lockers and the pack with anything in it won't fit.

I purchased this for GenCon because our hotel was within walking distance but I wanted to bring my own food for the day. I used 2 soft neoprene lunch bags inside to help keep food cold for the whole day, but you could omit those. The outer pouch isn't thermal insulated, but it's perfect to carry my wallet and utensils plus a few other small items.I actually have used this backpack a ton during summer with my son. We bring picnics on hikes or to the park, and even if we are spending a day at the museum, it's nice that we can bring our own food and not have to depend on a restaurant.Overall this is one of the best purchases I've made in a long while. I haven't tested how waterproof it is, because I always use frozen water bottles or ice packs.

-Before PurchasingWhen searching for a cooler backpack, I wanted the best one for the best price while being stylish, sleek (not too bulky), durable, water resistant, and light weight so it is comfortable to carry on my back for hours while on a hiking trip or while tailgating. After searching for quite some time, I finally found this Coleman 28-can cooler backpack and did not have to look any further. This backpack was all I was searching for while being at a great affordable price being just below $30.-Negative CharacteristicsThere was only one negative characteristic and it is being water resistant. There has only been one instance where the water resistant characteristic could be tested and it id not quite pass. It was raining quite hard outside, then once I made it inside, I opened the bag and it was pretty full of water.-Positive CharacteristicsIt was exactly how it was advertised and exactly what I was looking for. After testing it out the first time, I was able to fit 30 cans in it easily, I still had room in the extra pockets for miscellaneous items, and the cans stayed cool throughout the day. For carrying 30 cans on my back for hours, I thought my back or shoulders would be sore, but having the waist strap at the bottom of the backpack really felt like it took off a lot of the weight by distributing it evenly. The durability of this Coleman cooler backpack is impeccable. The Material is perfect for using outdoors because it has a rough texture so if you were to rub against a rough surface it would hold together well. If you are looking for an affordable cooler backpack to take on hikes, tailgating, or just walking around on a hot summer day, that you don’t dread carrying, and looks like a regular and nice backpack, this Coleman 28-can cooler backpack is perfect.

I have many backpacks, but this is my first cooler backpack. I love it.Pros:Easy washable material. I got it soaked in river water andNice zippers, open and close without issue.• Front bungee cord seems usefull and cinches up pretty tightly.• Straps are thick and comfy and fit well on me (5’11” 200lbs)• Mostly waterproof. I had this fasted to my kayak with rolled in a river. Later upon getting back to shore I noticed only a little bit of water had entered the bag. I didn’t believe it was waterproof, but it’s pretty darn close to it.• It kept my stuff cold. I didn’t not check temps, I did not evaluate scientifically – I just used the backpack every day for a week. See note below.• 2 pockets are just fine for what I need. (1 main and 1 front small pocket)• 2 side water bottle pockets held a large bottle of sunscreen and a med bottle of bug spray just fine. I never put water bottle in them.• The silver lined insulation is pretty thick – thicker than any of the lunch bags, boxes, etc. that I have for my kids.• Note: For 5 straight days of beach use at 86F+ temps, I usually put 3 bottles of water, 4 cans of soda, a packable beach blanket (think parachute material), 1 2.5lb Arctic Ice Chillin Brew Series Reusable Cooler Pack and a few other items in the large pocket and my phone, charger, wallet in the smaller pocket. Both pockets had room to spare. Whenever I first checked email (was on vacation) for the day, I took out my glasses and phone and both were so cold condensation appeared! Drinks were always cold. The ice replacement partially melted. Every night around 6PM I would empty my backpack at the house and drinks and ice and all contents were still cold. Love this backpack. This is just normal use, no tests, no thermometers. BTW I saw this bags review from someone who used it a Disney World I can totally see myself taking this to themeparks, cruises, etc. awesome.Cons:• The handle is a bit thin, I wish it was thicker or covered with plastic/foam of some sort.• I don’t like the waist belt and I don’t use it. Wish there was a way to remove it and reattach when I needed it.• Zippers aren’t waterproof, but they are close. The 4 minute river submersion only yielded a little bit of water (less than an ounce for sure.)

I didn’t have very high expectations of this inexpensive Coleman backpack cooler. My family and I are going on vacation to the beach later this month and I purchased it in anticipation of that trip. I have 5 young children and anything with backpack straps is my friend, since they won’t carry or keep up with their own water bottles most days. I bought it thinking we could haul the baby’s bottles and their water cups to the beach more easily, but still had in my mind I wanted to try and snag a “nicer” cooler sometime in the near future. Ha. Nope, my desire for a Yeti Hopper is completely gone. I will stick with these Coleman backpack coolers as long as they make them!We live on the lake, in central Alabama where the weather this summer has been our typical high humidity and “feels like” temps of over 100. We spend almost every summer day in the full sun swimming, and I have been taking this cooler with us for the past month. It’s great at keeping our water bottles cold, and keeping snacks from melting, yes. It’s a cooler, it does it’s job. BUT, it’s most shining feature is one I discovered quite by accident.I had been leaving my phone (iPhone 7+) in the house while we were swimming because it was overheating, even if I was conscious to keep it in the shade. This Coleman backpack cooler solved that!I put a couple of ice packs in the big pocket, and then the smaller pocket holds my phone, Bluetooth speaker and/or earbuds, battery pack, etc. My phone stays cool and hasn’t overheated since! There is never any condensation inside the small pocket, but the cold transfers from the main compartment to keep electronics cool.In my photo I have my son’s iPhone 6, and a white A5 sized hardback journal for size reference. A5 is smaller than a standard school sized notebook but it is not pocket sized. There is also a purple floral Vera Bradley pen case standing up in there; it’s about 2” taller than an ink pen or #2 pencil.ALSO, your mileage may vary, and I wouldn’t test it intentionally, but having my phone in this cooler bag saved it from taking a swim in the lake, I think. I was out in the water and one of my kids knocked the cooler into the lake from the dock. It was in the water, face down (so the small pocket with my phone was in the lake) for at least 30 seconds while I swam over to grab it. I was certain my phone and everything else in there was toast, but nope. Bone dry! Not a drop of water got into the pocket with my phone or other electronics. I wouldn’t take it scuba diving, but it’s nice to know my stuff is safe if the kids are dripping on the bag or splashing around it, or if we get caught out in a heavy rain. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this cooler. The straps are very comfortable even when it’s packed heavy, and that’s without ever using the lumbar support that buckles around the waist.

I'm a local truck driver working in construction. I was looking for something convenient to throw food and drinks in with room enough for some ice packs. This barely does the job, but it gets it done. I'm in arizona where it's 115 regularly during the summer. It will keep things cold for a few hours and after 10hrs, things are just cool. If your looking for something to keep your food ice cold all day, you shouldn't be looking at soft coolers to begin with. IMO, these poor reviews are by people ignorant in what they are buying. Buy a hard cooler if you want ice all day.... soft coolers arent really designed for that. It's nice to be able to sling this over your shoulder and go, but in the arizona heat, I don't expect my ice packs to keep up with even a cheap hard cooler.*update*No changes in my opinion as far as cooling goes, however the straps are beginning to tear from the pack. I can see the threading separating. Zippers and pouches/ material is holding up well other than the straps failing. I haven't been particularly rough with it, but I have overstuffed it on an occasion. Im in a dry, construction environment so it stands to reason it may be seeing a tad more abuse than you regular Joe. I can't really ding it too bad considering what I stuff in it and the environment is in.

I've had this backpack and used it every day for almost a month. I use it primarily to go to and from work with. I got tired of riding my bicycle in and having to fight with the shoulder strap on my cooler when travelling back and forth.Just a couple facts for possible purchasers;-2 main compartments, the larger one of the 2 is in the back and is large enough to store food for 1 person for an entire day, or maybe 2 people if packed very smart and tightly.- The cooler performs ok, but don't expect to pull out an icy beverage after it's been sitting in there for a couple hours.- DO NOT PUT ICE IN THIS IT WILL LEAK! Cannot make that clear enough, if you purchase this bag with the intention to keep things cold, you need to get a couple ice-packs.- Feels very good and ergonomic to wear, the additional waist straps come in clutch for when I'm out biking. They keep it from sliding all over the place.Overall, I'd recommend this cooler for the average everyday Joe. Don't expect this to function like one of those stupid "seven day ice holder" coolers that sells for $500+.

I suppose it’s cheap for a reason. Bought this specifically for hot summer pool days and concerts etc... We were happy to see it arrive, and were excited to see it looked good, and was lined with what appeared to be a water tight enclosure. We promptly loaded it full of waters, juice boxes, beer and ice. Off we went...Problem is, as the ice melts, the entire bottom of the bag drips non-stop with water. The bag can not handle ice. I assumed it could... my entire back, shorts, legs, you name it, got more and more wet, the longer I carried it.Not really a cooler bag, I suppose. More like a padded backpack, nothing more. As long as you use ice packs and not actually ice, it’s prob fine.I like my beer cold, so I use ice. Prolly gonna return it.

Got this for my husband to take his lunch and canteens of water and ice tea to work. LOVE this! Fits a decent bag lunch plus multiple bottled water bottles and tall reusable drink canteens along with reusable lunch ice packs. Also it's really nice looking in person. The product photos make it appear to have a hideous orange and ugly greenish color but it absolutely does not. More of a burnt orange /rust color and neutral colors.

Use this for a lunch bag to bring to work. Its very spacious: one large zippered insulated compartment large enough for a gallon jug and more; one front zippered pocket with a mesh divider with plenty of room; 2 small mesh side pockets that will fit a sports bottle; comfortably padded shoulder straps as well as a padded waist strap. With a couple ice packs, this cooler will keep my drinks very cold for 10+ hours in the middle of summer. I've also taken this out for strolls in the woods and it's been great. Highly recommended!

We used this bag for our summer Disney World trip. My boyfriend and I each had one of these. In the morning we would load it with waters and snacks. To avoid having to pack ice packs I froze some bottles of water and put them in there, as they thawed we’d drink them. The front pocket is tight, but it held my poncho, keys, sunscreen, and other items. The bag never leaked during our weeklong trip. We are going back again this summer and this bag is coming with us again!

i just wanted this for a lunchbox, it makes it easier for me to get around with a backpack cooler. i've used backpack coolers prior to this one and they were smaller and i carried more in the outside pouches but i kind of like being able to put everything inside of this one since it's bigger than what i've used in the past. i used one cooler for a long time and it just wore out over time, i tried two between that one and this one that both quickly had damage on them but i've been using this maybe a month and there doesn't seem to be any sign of wear on it. it has a waist strap which makes me feel secure in that something won't snap and it will fall when i'm using it. the only thing that i'm not crazy about with it is the way that it opens. my previous bags had more of a flip top that i was used to but i'm getting more used to this one.update - i've been using this maybe a year now and there's little damage, part of the zipper seems acts like there's something stuck in it but overall it still works great.

Love this bookbag. I use it for work and it seems to being holding up to abuse that it gets from me throwing it around. I work 12 hours shifts and all my food and drinks are still cold at the end of my shift

I bought this backpack cooler to carry into work; I'm a nurse that packs a lot of stuff for a 12hr shift and they make us walk about a quarter mile from our parking lot. The backpack is comfortable, functional, and appears to be high quality. I usually put my items into the fridge when I get there so I'm unsure how long it actually keeps things cold. My only "complaint" is that I wish it had more pockets outside of the main compartment! Overall, it's far more comfortable for me to carry than a traditional lunch bag.

It's not leakproof as the ad would lead you to believe, but I use a dry bag to go inside of the backpack.I filled the dry bag with ice and stuffed it full of beer. Kept everything nice and cold while we walked around the French Quarter in New Orleans during the hottest days of August! Better yet, it kept me dry from not having the melting Ice leak out on me!I'm 5'11" 225lbs. Picture is for sizing reference.

It was a good backpack, but I returned it because it didn't really help keep our stuff colder than a regular backpack with icepacks (we also put ice packs in this pack). Our other packs were a bit smaller and better suited to getting on and off the rides at Disneyland easier. This pack was just a bit too bulky once we added the snacks we brought. The straps did start to show some fraying after a couple uses at the park. We weren't rough on it either. If you were going to the beach or on a hike, this pack would be great, but for amusement parks, just a bit too bulky. Amazon returned item with no problems.

Bought this for a vacation for 4 people with a lot of hiking and thought that one person could carry the food that needed to be chilled. The bag works as a cooler, but it's too small. The dimensions for the listing are correct, but it's smaller than any of the other backpacks we have. The side pockets were small, very tight when the back was full and it was hard to get 2 water bottles in it. And the placement of the straps is weird, it's like they're too far apart. My husband is a big guy, like a 2XL and has a big chest, so it worked for him, but if I put it on the straps would slide off my shoulders and down my arms. I would definitely choose something with a larger bag next time. If we had had more time before our trip, I would have returned this one for something else.

One of my all time favorite purchases on Amazon (and I've bought a lot here). It keeps things cold for a long time if you put cold packs in with the god or drinks. I use it as a lunch box or to carry snacks for hikes. It is far more comfortable to carry than any of the other lunch totes or cases than anything else I've tried or seen. Just love it. I've had it for several months now, use it almost every day and it still looks brand new. Would recommend to anyone thinking about buying it. It's so good I'm still happy with it even though I got it at "full price" a few days after it went on a lightening sale and I still think I paid a good price for it.

This Backpack is MUCH SMALLER that what I expected. I live in Florida and occasionally i have to leave groceries in the car..I thought this would be a decent size but I really can't put more than one medium bag of groceries in the Backpack. It's more like something a kid would take to school instead of a lunchbox. The quality seems good. I'm deciding on whether to keep it.

Working in a metropolitan park requires bringing two things everyday: Food and even more water. I researched extensively before purchasing this pack. I weighed cost, brand, reviews, and capacity. I've used it for 3 months and can attest that's worth every cent. I've stuffed it full of provisions and carted it all over park. It doesn't disappoint! While my coworkers are juggling their lunchboxes and coolers I'm organized and prepared. I can comfortably fit one Igloo 1/2 gallon Insulated Hydration Jug, Black/Red Heat, 64 ozand one Hydro Flask 21 oz Double Wall Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Leak Proof Sports Water Bottle, Standard Mouth with BPA Free Flex Cap, Raspberry I easily carry three times the amount of water of any of my coworkers. And I still have room in the front pouch for sandwiches, chips, and utensils. Plus the pack accommodates plenty of ice packs.Utilizing the webbed side pouches, I keep a travel pack of tissues and sunscreen. I even attached a: Condor MA77 (OD) to the upper carry strap to hold extra items. If they ever discontinue this pack I'll be crushed. Therefore don't pass up this excellent product! You won't be disappointed.

I used this to take on a party boat salt water fishing boat. It keeps cold for ever it seems like and with the wet iI was in no water got inside the thermal pouch or the front pouch. I am 300 pounds and I had plenty of room left on the shoulder straps and the waist strap. It far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend. It also washes very well also, I used hand wash setting on machine and it did fine.

A Medium size backpack with lots of cold food storage and the secondary comportment is large enough to fit a tablet and much more. The backpack feels fairly light to me when empty. The zippers are not too large yet sturdy and work smoothly. The shoulder straps curve inward so they don't have the tendency to slip off even when carrying the pack on one shoulder and they are padded which makes them very comfortable. There is a waist strap as well but I found it unnecessary because the shoulder straps work so well, it might be useful for extreme hiking or rock climbing or snowboarding etc.I put a couple cold bottles of water with a small freezer pack in it and it kept my water cold for more than 8 hours at work in the factory on a warm day.The low price of this pack is the icing on the cake.

I used this backpack to keep waters cold for an all day festival. It worked beautifully. The only thing I would say is, the front zipper section WILL get cold so if you house a cellphone or anything electronic be aware. Straps are very comfortable and the waist strap is great for added security.

I love how this backpack has padding on the shoulder straps, a waist buckle to offset the weight, water bottle side pockets, a separate front compartment for other things. HOWEVER, the size of this pack is very compact and hold just enough for a few snack items, a couple sandwiches, with 4-6 bottles of water without an ice pack. The depth is about the length of my hand stretched out (see attached picture), which really isn't much space to work with. The insulation on this bag is pretty weak compared to your typical Igloo Brand Lunch Bag.The front compartment is so tight in space, that I can only fit a few flat things, such as hand wipes, pocket knife, a few granola bars, and some napkins; leaving no room for my sandwiches without being squished (IF I added 2 sandwiches and a cold pack, like the advertised picture). Also, there's only ONE pocket in the front compartment that the advertising photos does not show and it's pretty flimsy and doesn't really do much in holding up, say, my pocket knife flimsily clipped onto it (see attached photo, hand for scale). I dislike how the pocket is made of meshy material, and that there aren't more compartments. What backpack can function like that?! -_- Also, it would have be great if there was an interior clip attached to the backpack for items such as keys to hang and not get lost in that useless mesh pocket...I needed a backpack that was insulated and can keep my food from spoiling at least until late afternoon throughout Disney World. With an ice pack, it kept my items cold, but only up to about 4-5 hours of Florida humidity of about 80 degrees. After that, it pretty much was on its last bit of condensation, and I had to eat everything before it got warm :/ Also, if you do decide on this bag, line the bottom of the back compartment with a towel to absorb the condensation to avoid having all that liquid sloshing around at the end of the day and emptying it out like an idiot. I thought this was going to be the designated bag for Disney World, but alas: close, but not quite.

It's been 8 months since I purchased this bag and I have absolutely NO complaints. This bag was purchased so that I could transport breakfast and lunch to work everyday. Originally I had the Igloo backpack cooler, but it had ripped after about a year and wanted to try something that didnt make me look like Jimmy Neutron. This Coleman bag holds ALOT cool and very well. I have a cooler pack in the large compartment with my food. In the front zipper I put my iPad 4. In the summer time if I have a light jacket, I put it through the elastic cord.I hope this never rips or breaks but if it does, I will be buying this again.I have the dark blue and yellow one. I think they also have a blue and light grey which I will be getting next.
